Located in the Arade River estuary, Portimão is known for its excellent sandy beaches with warm and calm waters, which make it a very seductive holiday destination.

Portimão has a long fishing tradition, where you can visit the excellent recovery of an old factory the Museum of Portimão.
It is in the riverside area that you can taste the roasted sardine, followed by a sea walk by the Marina.

Just six kilometres from Portimão, is the fishing village of Alvor where it keeps its charm in the streets of white houses and the colourful boats.

At the highest point there are still some stretches of the castle walls, but the highlight goes to the Mother Church with a profusely worked 16th century portico and the panorama that can be seen from the churchyard over the sea and the Ria, has a special charm at dawn, when absolute tranquillity reigns.

But to get a complete idea of the area of Portimão, one has to appreciate it from all perspectives. For example, on a boat trip along the coast to see beaches inaccessible by land and admire the rock formations.
